There is no sandwich like a Bay Cities sandwich. Located in the heart of Santa Monica, Bay Cities Italian Deli and Bakery serves up the best Italian sandwich in Los Angeles, hands down. The bustling deli which is more store than deli, features olives, tapenades, fresh breads, pastas, cheeses and any other Italian food product you can imagine. Where Bay Cities really shines though is their sandwiches. The infamous Godmother sandwich, featured in the photo above, is Genoa Salami, Mortadella Coppacola, Ham, Prosciutto and Provolone. But it doesn’t end there…make sure to order the sandwich with “the works” - which includes, mayo, mustard (yellow, honey or dijon), onions, pickles, tomatoes, lettuce, Italian dressing (the best you will ever have) and mild or hot pepper salad. The sandwich is served on a freshly baked, crisped Italian roll - please don’t get your sandwich on any other bread in an attempt to be healthy. Needless to say, the sandwich is heaven sent. For all the vegetarians out there, the Caprese is also wonderful. A word to the wise - order the sandwich online (on their website) first. Leave 30 minutes after you order and you will skip the potentially hour long wait at the deli and go straight to the back where another area has whipped up your sandwich in no time. Try some of their cold salads, like the potato one pictured above, and you’ve got yourself one of the best meals you will ever dig your teeth into. Sidenote: over the summer I would go to my gym, which is conveniently located a few blocks away, and would pretty much cancel out my workout every time by picking up one of these…no regrets. Bay Cities is easily one of the top 10 restaurants you need to eat at in Los Angeles.
